Dear colleagues:

In its 49 years of life, The Mexican Society for the Study of Hypertension (MSSH), and The Mexican Council Against Hypertension (MCAH), have developed several scientific, academic, and diffusional activities, which are not seen commonly in our medical environment.

One of the most important successes of these two institutions is the Honorable Mention obtained for the work «Epidemiology of Arterial Hypertension in Mexico» obtained at the X Interamerican Congress of Cardiology held in Caracas, Venezuela known for being the best academic event on this subject in america.

This Course takes place every year ever since 1974, with the attendance of distinguished national and international experts in the field, coming from Latin America, the United States, and Europe; this is including our remarkable national (Mexican) physicians. To complement each Course, books and articles have been published with the utmost relevant information about the subject discussed in the Course. The MSSH and the MCAH, known as two of the most creative institutions in the branch, with the most national and international requests to present: symposiums, courses, lectures and analogous activities, given with the quality experience of distinguished professors in their branch and members of these institutions.

Since being founded on July 2nd 1974, the MSSH has sought without recess to perform thoroughly its responsibility to contribute actively to the professional improvement of physician from our country.

To achieve this purpose, one of the methods most used and applied with more devotion, has been the established reciprocal bond of communication and the interchange with the most important medical specialist and institutions of the world that cultivate this field, particularly with the physicians in our continent. The presences of many of them at our events give us an idea of the success achieved in the search of this objective.

We are convinced that the consolidation of professional relations of this type is the cornerstone for the realization of scientific meetings of the magnitude of those we have celebrated during the time these strategies have been implemented these last 46 years. The experience derived from them allows us to state categorically that this is one of the most fruitful resources to contribute to the general advance of medical science and its exercise, thanks to the joint national and international effort to inform of new and better ways to treat, prevent and control patients.

At this time, the MSSH has 24,732 active members distributed in the 31 states of our Mexican Republic and Mexico City.

Each month, we perform one or two Courses in several states of our Mexican Republic in collaboration with: State Collage Institutions, local medical societies, medical centers and state health directories. Throughout these years we have held multiple Courses in Latin America, with the distinct Hypertension Societies of the planning countries. At the moment we have carried out 511 Courses in our country, with a total assistance of 299,786 physicians. In the same manner, we have imparted in Spanish-America, including Brazil, 81 Courses with a total audience of 52,314 physicians with interest in the subject.

Also, the publications of many members of these Institutions are remarkable and useful to the people interested in the topic of Hypertension. Recently, based on the previous data, the MSSH and the MCAH decided to create their own magazine «Hipertensión”, with the purpose of trying to establish a participation mechanism, and making the main activities of common knowledge. «Hipertensión», a medical specialized magazine, published every two months with several Articles written by experts on the field, who contribute by extending and deepening the knowledge of this subject.

The principal audience of «Hipertensión» is constituted by general, family physicians, but also who are interested in cardiology, nephrology, endocrinology, pediatrics, geriatrics, gynecology, neurology, pathology, epidemiology’, and in public health. The most important contents of the magazine are review articles, and some original investigations signed by Mexican and foreign authors known worldwide.

In general, the magazine’s main objective is to present practical and up to date information to their readers, taking into account the basic and investigation aspects, without which is not possible to understand how to prevent and treat hypertension correctly. The principal disease that nowadays affects the majority of Mexico’s population as well as it does worldwide. On the other hand, is evident that a project like this represents an elevated cost that can only be guaranteed by the chemical and pharmacologic industry, buying publicity spaces in the magazine.

After giving you a general wide view of the activities that are performed by the MSSH and the MCAH, We formally invite you to attend our Annual Courses taught in different cities of our country, where you will see topics related to Arterial Hypertension.
